Amid the global wave of promoting green development through industrial chain collaboration, China’s textile industry is actively innovating and accelerating its pace of green and low-carbon transformation with firm determination and strong action.

As the world’s largest producer, exporter, and consumer of textiles and apparel, China’s textile industry holds a pivotal position in the global textile sector. With textile fiber processing volume accounting for over 50% of the global total, however, annual carbon emissions from the textile industry account for approximately 2% of China’s total carbon emissions, mainly from energy use. Facing the requirements of the “dual carbon” goals, the industry shoulders important missions and embraces historical opportunities for industrial upgrading.

Notably, remarkable progress has been made in the green and low-carbon transformation of China’s textile industry. From 2005 to 2022, the industry’s emission intensity dropped by over 60%, and it has continued to decrease by 14% in the past two years, continuously contributing Chinese solutions and textile wisdom to global climate governance.

At the “2025 Climate Innovation · Fashion Conference,” relevant experts outlined directions for the green development of the textile industry: improving green governance systems by consolidating development foundations, advancing carbon footprint accounting across the industrial chain, promoting green technical standards, and building ESG innovation systems; creating collaborative innovation ecosystems by leveraging leading enterprises’ leadership, strengthening technological innovation in key areas, and accelerating the industrial application of cutting-edge green technologies; and advancing pragmatic global cooperation by enhancing ties with Belt and Road Initiative partner countries and exploring stable and efficient cross-border recycling systems for textiles.

Green development has become the ecological foundation and value keynote for China’s textile industry to build a modern industrial system. From end-of-pipe treatment to full-chain optimization, from linear consumption to circular utilization, the industry is reshaping its future through total-factor innovation, full-chain upgrading, and data-driven governance, seizing new tracks for industrial upgrading in global climate governance.

Let’s look forward to more achievements in China’s textile industry’s green and low-carbon transformation, contributing more to global sustainable development and leading the fashion industry toward a greener and brighter future!
