When choosing clothes for babies, the choice of fabrics has always been a “compulsory course” in parenting – after all, the skin of little ones is as thin as a cicada’s wing and is three times more sensitive than that of adults. A little rough friction and a trace of chemical residue may make the little face red and the skin rash. Safety is the bottom line that cannot be compromised, and “soft and skin-friendly” is the premise for the baby to grow freely. After all, only when they are comfortable can they chew the corners of clothes and roll on the ground with confidence~
Natural materials are the first choice, wear the “cloud feeling” on your body
The material of the baby’s underwear should be as gentle as the mother’s hand. Look for these types of “natural players” and the pitfall rate will drop by 90%:
Pure cotton (especially combed cotton): It is as fluffy as a freshly dried marshmallow, with long and soft fibers, and absorbs sweat three times faster than chemical fibers. It will not cause prickly heat in summer, and will not feel “ice chips” when worn close to the body in winter. Combed cotton also removes short fibers, and it remains smooth after 10 washes. The cuffs and trouser legs, which are prone to friction, feel as delicate as silk.
Bamboo fiber/Tencel: It is lighter than pure cotton and has a “cool” feeling. It feels like wearing a small fan in weather above 30℃. It also has some natural antibacterial properties. It is not easy for babies to breed bacteria after drooling and sweating. It is very friendly to sensitive skin.
Modal (preferred regenerated cellulose fiber): The softness can be scored 100 points! It rebounds quickly after stretching, and it feels like nothing is on your body. You can change your diaper without getting a red belly. But remember to choose a blended style with a cotton content of more than 50%. Too pure modal is easy to deform~
Look for the “Class A” logo and put safety first
When choosing fabrics for babies aged 0-3, be sure to look at the “safety category” on the label:
Class A infant products are the “ceiling” in the national mandatory standards: formaldehyde content ≤20mg/kg (adult clothing is ≤75mg/kg), PH value 4.0-7.5 (consistent with the pH value of baby skin), no fluorescent agent, no odor, and even the dye must be “infant-specific grade”, so you don’t have to worry about biting the corners of clothes~
For babies over 3 years old, you can relax to Class B, but it is still recommended to stick to Class A for close-fitting clothing, especially autumn clothes and pajamas that are in contact with the skin for a long time.
Don’t buy these “minefield fabrics” no matter how good they look!
Stiff synthetic fiber (mainly polyester and acrylic): It feels like plastic paper, and its breathability is ridiculously poor. When the baby sweats, it will stick to the back tightly. If rubbed for a long time, the neck and armpits will be rubbed with red marks, and in severe cases, small rashes will occur.
Heavy offset/sequin fabric: The raised offset pattern feels hard, and it will crack and fall apart after washing twice. It is too dangerous if the baby picks it off and puts it in his mouth; sequins, rhinestones and other decorations have sharp edges and can easily scratch delicate skin.
“Prickly” details: Be sure to “touch it all over” before buying – check if there are any raised threads at the seams (especially the collar and cuffs), whether the zipper head is arc-shaped (the sharp ones will poke the chin), and whether the snaps have burrs. If these small places rub the baby, he will cry uncontrollably in minutes~
Baoma’s secret tips: “soften” new clothes first
Don’t rush to wear the clothes you buy. Wash them gently in cold water with baby-specific laundry detergent:
It can remove the floating hair on the surface of the fabric and the starch used during production (making the fabric softer);
Test whether it fades (slight floating of dark fabrics is normal, but if it fades severely, return it decisively!);
After drying, gently rub it. It will feel fluffier than a new one. The baby will wear it like a washed cloud~
Baby’s happiness is simple. A soft piece of clothing can make them less restrained and more comfortable when learning to crawl and walk. After all, those moments of rolling, falling, and biting the corners of clothes should be well caught by gentle fabrics~
